🦋 First Grade Field Trip Fun! 🦋
Our first graders had an amazing adventure at the Butterfly House yesterday! They were so excited to explore, learn, and see the butterflies up close. From walking through the tropical gardens filled with colorful butterflies to spotting caterpillars and chrysalises, there was so much to discover! 🌸🐛🌿
Students learned all about the butterfly life cycle, their habitats, and the important role they play in nature. It was such a fun and educational experience filled with wonder, laughter, and lots of smiles! 💙✨

Miss Koch is originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and graduated from Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa, where she also played soccer for four years! ⚽
She loves traveling and exploring new places—she’s even been out of the country three times to Canada, Costa Rica, and Spain! 🌎✈️
Before joining Garfield, Miss Koch taught 4th grade, and this is her first year teaching Kindergarten—as well as her first time living outside of Iowa! 💛

Miss Peters was born and raised right here in Sioux Falls and has called Harrisburg home for the past 11 years. She graduated from Augustana University and is beginning her 12th year in education—her first year not having her own classroom!
She’s a proud mom to two kids, Annalise (7th grade) and Odin (4th grade). 💛 Her favorite color is orange, and here’s a fun fact—Miss Peters was featured on one of the South Dakota episodes of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives while eating at her favorite restaurant, Lalibela! 🍽️
We’re thrilled to have her join our school family and can’t wait to see all the great things she’ll bring to Garfield! 💙

Mrs. Burns grew up in Los Angeles, CA and recently celebrated a very special milestone — she and her husband were married this past May in Cancun, MX! 💍🌴 She loves to travel, spend time with friends and family, and of course, her husband. 💕
At Garfield, her role as Attendance Liaison is all about supporting student success. She works to improve student attendance and helps bridge communication between families and the school. Mrs. Burns is passionate about helping students thrive by addressing barriers to attendance and making sure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
